Oberbank’s CEO Dr. Franz Gasselsberger MBA was delighted to welcome guests from 27 different countries. In his opening speech Dr. Gasselsberger highlighted the importance of Oberbank´s sound business model as a regional bank combined with the international business activities for servicing its core clientele and corporations in their cross-border activities. He additionally  presented the extraordinary good results for the year 2009 as well as for the first quarter 2010 (presentation, PDF).

The first guest speaker Univ.-Prof. Dr. Ewald Nowotny, Governor of the Austrian National Bank, developed on “How to handle the challenge of the financial recovery” and he explained why a EUR 750 billion package of the EU, ECB and IMF was necessary to stabilize the financial markets. He also stated that there is no sign for inflation in Europe at the moment (presentation, PDF).

The second speaker Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wiegard, from the Institute for Economics at the University of Regensburg, and member of the German Council of Economic Experts, presented 15 propositions on his topic “Economic Drivers for the European Future”. He also confirmed the necessity of this stabilization package and he called for more discipline in public spending (presentation, PDF).

Both speakers agreed that there is no current threat for the currency Euro as such and they both gave excellent orientation and clear statements to the audience.

The exciting evening presentation was held by former Austrian skier Armin Assinger who successfully acts as sports commentator and TV-presenter of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” nowadays. In his speech “Live is like a downhill race” he developed on the segments of the famous downhill track “Streif” in Austria´s well known winter sport resort “Kitzbühel”.
